Yoenis Cespedes won’t let a shoulder issue keep him from the World Series
The New York Mets are going to the World Series. After Wednesday’s sweep of the Chicago Cubs, elation was at an all time high among fans.
Lost in that, however, was the fact that the team’s best offensive player, Yoenis Cespedes, left the contest early due to a shoulder injury. If there was any concern about Cespedes missing the World Series, though, he cleared that up.
Well, that answers that question. It’s pretty clear Cespedes will do whatever it takes to play in the World Series, and that really shouldn’t come as a surprise.
We’re unsure how he would manage in the specific scenario he described above, but we’re willing to just believe him here. Seeing the first partial cyborg baseball player would certainly make the World Series a bit more interesting. We’re going to guess Rob Manfred would frown upon that type of thing, but, honestly, a one-armed Cespedes could still probably produce at the plate.
Allow us to be serious for a minute. Cespedes received a cortisone shot after he was taken out of the game. Those typically require about 2-3 days in order to fully kick in. Game 1 of the World Series isn’t scheduled until Tuesday, October 27. That should Cespedes more than enough time to feel better.
That’s a huge positive for the Mets. When healthy, the 30-year-old is capable to taking over a series. While Cespedes’ bat hasn’t been firing on all cylinders yet this postseason, he’s the type of player who can get hot and completely dominate in a short spurt.
Given everything that’s at stake here, Cespedes is going to do whatever it takes to make sure he’s in the lineup.
