Cubs end their season on a classy note, saluting their fans after NLCS loss
in a four-game sweep, in which the woebegone Cubs never even led once.
This wasn’t what the Chicago Cubs wanted. Not to get knocked out of the playoffs by the New York Mets and certainly not[Related: Catcher David Ross loses track of count, brings levity to Cubs’ misery]
Ending a baseball season like that can be a gut-punch. And watching the opposing team celebrate on your field can be deflating. But give credit to the Cubs for this: They ended their season in a very classy way. Instead of retreating to their clubhouse to sulk and think about what could have been, they went back out on the field and saluted the Wrigley Field faithful, who chanted, “Let’s go Cubbies” despite their disappointment.

That’s a nice moment between a team and its fans — a team that, mind you, is built to return to this situation in the years to come. The Cubs certainly hope that one of these years they’ll be saluting their fans after a World Series win.
For now, they at least ended a surprising season ends in a nice way.
