The Cubs won the World Series today, according to ‘Back to the Future II’
You know that one meme your cousin posts all the time saying today is the day Marty McFly went to the future? Well, for once, that cousin is actually right.
October 21, 2015, was the exact date Marty McFly traveled to in “Back to the Future II” in order to save his kids from becoming “jerks.” It also happens to be the day he learned the Chicago Cubs had won the 2015 World Series.
For reference:
All season, baseball websites have written stories about the prediction. And, when it turned out the Cubs were good, people wanted to believe “Back to the Future II” was right. Maybe this was finally the year the Cubbies broke the curse.
Well, we have some news for the “Back to the Future II” truthers: The Cubs aren’t going to win the World Series today. In fact, the team could actually be ousted from the playoffs. That would be quite the plot twist.
Many have already realized this, and have adjusted their expectations accordingly:
Of course, it’s not impossible for the Cubs to still win the 2015 World Series. The prediction could still come true. They would just need to make one heck of a comeback.
That would also make for the better story. What if the Cubs started their epic comeback on the day “Back to the Future II” said they would win the World Series? What if that momentum carried the Cubs to a World Series championship? What if the writers knew this would happen, and intentionally put out the news the day they knew Cubs fans would be at their lowest? What if this is nothing more than the longest of cons?
If you still believe, now might be a good time to “put some money on the Cubbies,” like the old man suggests. You can probably still get some really good odds.
