Philadelphia are currently 3-3 in the regular season, having destroyed the New York Giants in a 27-7 victory last week. It might have been a different story had the Eagles’ defensive unit not come to the aid of the struggling offensive line up on several occasions. Cornerback, Nolan Carroll II returned an interception 17 yards for a touchdown, and linebacker, DeMeco Ryans added another pick off the opposing team’s quarterback, Eli Manning. Philadelphia also forced two grounding penalties, giving all the limelight to the defence.
While it’s clear that the Eagles have plenty of work to do offensively, they aren’t doing so bad overall. They’ve claimed an average of 353.3 yards per game, ranking them 13th, and have managed to secure an average of 24 points per game as well, giving them a 10th placing. The team’s stellar defence unit has halted opposing teams to scoring an average of just 18.3 points, placing Philadelphia in 6th position. Quarterback, Sam Bradford has attempted 228 passes this season so far and has completed 144 of them for 1561 yards, giving him a completion percentage of 63.2%.
The Panthers remain one of the only teams this year to have claimed victories in all of their games, with the most recent coming last week against the Seattle Seahawks. Carolina proved that even a bye in week five couldn’t stop them from returning to prestige, claiming the 27-23 victory on October 18th. The win also marked a break in the team’s four-game losing streak at CenturyLink Field. Quarterback, Cam Newton may sometimes play an erratic game, but he showed steel and grit against the Seahawks, recording 12 of 15 passes for 162 yards, and 269 passing yards overall. However, he also threw two interceptions, something he’ll need to curb against the Eagles.
Carolina have an ultimately strong offensive line up overall. They’ve scored an average of 27 points per game, ranking them sixth. However, there’s a little issue with Newton’s overall passing game, as he’s only claimed 201.4 yards on average per game, ranking the team 30th, while an average of 132.8 rush yards give the team a third place. The Panthers also have a very strong defence unit, who have held opponents to an average of 18.8 points per game and only given up 338 yards on average as well, ranking them seventh for both areas. Outside linebacker, Thomas Davis has recorded a total of 30 tackles so far this season, and a further 14 assisted tackles, as well as two sacks and a forced fumble.

We’d love to back the Panthers here, but we don’t trust their offense that hasn’t faced the top defensive clubs this season. Some of you may say what about the Seahawks? Seattle is ranked 11th in defense and sure they had to go without Kam Chancellor early in the season, but they also faced a Chicago team with Jimmy Clausen at the helm. They’ll meet an Eagles team that has allowed just 18.3 points per game to rank 6th in the league. On the other side of the ball Philadelphia hasn’t been able to get their offense rolling. They have scored 24 points a game, but they like the Panthers may be facing their toughest test of the season. Carolina has allowed 19.5 points at home this season and may be able to hold the Eagles to a number in that range. We believe that the Eagles will look to establish the run early based on the poor play of QB Sam Bradford (3 INTs LW) and if they have success no matter how fast they play it will eat a lot of clock. Getting us to our prediction. Philadelphia has been an under team this season with a 1-5 record against the O/U line and we think that will continue on Sunday night.
