NHL Three Stars: Price red hot; Crosby on the scoreboard; Ovechkin hits milestone
No. 1 Star: Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens
Price continued to stake his claim as best goalie on the planet with a sterling 38 save shutout performance over the St. Louis Blues. Price improved to 6-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and .966 save percentage. The Canadiens won their seventh-straight to start the year, a franchise record.
No. 2 Star: Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins captain scored a goal and added two assists – his first three points of the year, in a 3-2 win overtime win over the Florida Panthers. He had gone pointless in Pittsburgh’s first five games of the 2015-16 season. Crosby also assisted on Evgeni Malkin’s game-winner.
No. 3 Star: Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals
The Caps’ sniper notched his 900th point on the below goal in a 6-2 drubbing over the Calgary Flames. Ovechkin’s 900th point came in his 764th game. He is the fastest player to hit 900 points since Jaromir Jagr in 1999 (681 games) and is just the fourth Russian-born player in NHL history to hit the mark. Ovechkin also added an assist in the win.
