Houston finally made their way around to claiming a second victory of the 2015 season, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars in a game that finished with a 31-20 score. Having lost to Atlanta and Indianapolis in their previous two games, the Texans needed to pull something out of the bag to provide a decent morale boost. Such was the case that quarterback, Brian Hoyer threw three touchdown passes, completing 24 of 36 passes overall for 293 yards. Aside from a strong offence played, Houston’s defence finally became active enough, creating several turnovers and producing three takeaways.
Such play will be necessary against Miami this week, as the Dolphins’ aerial assault can be exceptionally brutal at times. While Houston’s defence unit may have gathered themselves together against Jacksonville, they’ve only managed to force a single fumble this season so far, with Brian Cushing recording a total of 29 tackles and a further 23 assists. DeAndre Hopkins has been on the receiving end of 52 passes for 726 yards and has claimed five touchdowns as well, although the team’s rushing game will need to be vastly improved upon in general.
Miami managed to claw themselves back from a three-game slide this past week, overcoming the Tennessee Titans to claim their second win of the season so far, in a game that finished with a 38-10 score. The Dolphins very much brought it to the Titans, promptly bringing back their running game to great effect, having been one of only two teams that hadn’t previously scored a rushing touchdown. Players, Jarvis Landry and Lamar Miller, each showed prowess during the game, with Landry claiming a touchdown in the opening quarter and Miller rushing for 113 yards and another touchdown.
The Dolphins’ defence also improved against the Jaguars, with Cameron Wake recording four sacks in the first half – an achievement he can add to his two forced fumbles, these being the only fumbles the team has recorded so far. Landry has also been top of the ranks on receptions, catching 31 for 312 yards, with Richard Matthews not that far behind, claiming 23 for 363 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback, Ryan Tannehill has attempted a total of 200 passes, and succeeded in 119 of them for 1346 yards, as well as nine touchdowns. However, he needs to play a little more cautiously, as he’s been sacked 12 times this season already.

If someone said before the season started that a healthy Miami team coming off of a confidence boosting win would be a four point home favorite over Houston most bettors would think that was good value. That’s the approach we are taking. We’re tossing out all of the games that happened before their bye week and basing our thoughts on the current Dolphins who held the Titans to 63 yards on the ground while amassing 434 total yards themselves. The Houston defense hasn’t performed well this season allowing 95 points in their last three games and while the 20 given up last week was their lowest of the three, it was poor decisions and mistakes by the Jags that kept them that low. Miami’s O-line will have to step up, but we think that the Texans defense is the weakest they have faced this season and if last week’s offensive explosion by the Fish is any indication of the true offense Houston is in for a long day.
