DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Oct. 21 – NHL.com
Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com’s fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we’ll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.
Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.
Nazem Kadri, C, Toronto Maple Leafs
DraftKings price: $4,900
Kadri entered play Wednesday leading the NHL with an average of 5.4 shots per game but only has one goal in five games this season. As a center on the Maple Leafs’ top line Kadri is adjusting to a new role and a different style of play under coach Mike Babcock. But if Kadri can charge the net more as opposed to taking shots from the outside, the goals likely will start to stack up. Taking a chance on Kadri as a second center Wednesday at the Buffalo Sabres could provide some serious value for DraftKings contestants.
Nail Yakupov, W, Edmonton Oilers
DraftKings price: $4,000
The Oilers’ second-line pair of Yakupov and 2015 No. 1 draft pick Connor McDavid is starting to click, so the bargain price for Yakupov is not expected to last much longer. DraftKings contestants should snatch him up Wednesday at home against the Detroit Red Wings as he has all four of his points this season (two goals, two assists) in the past four games, along with two blocked shots and 13 shots on goal during that span.
Francois Beauchemin, D, Colorado Avalanche
DraftKings price: $4,600
Although the Avalanche’s top defenseman has cooled since he had five assists in the first two games this season; Beauchemin figures to be a strong play Wednesday against the Carolina Hurricanes. Beauchemin leads all players with 24 blocked shots. He also has four goals, four assists, 39 blocked shots and 32 shots on goal in 15 career games against the Hurricanes.
DraftKings price: $7,400
Considering the lack of high-priced skaters available on a four-game Wednesday, it’s justified to take Rask as the most expensive goaltender. The Bruins host the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TVA Sports), who come in having lost 2-1 against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday and are 28th in the NHL with eight goals in five games. While Rask is in search of his first home win he nearly has been flawless in his career against the Flyers, going 9-1-1 with a 1.82 goals-against average, 310 saves (on 331 shots) and one shutout in 12 regular-season games.
