Daniel Murphy’s home runs are even lighting up the Vegas sportsbooks
How hot has Daniel Murphy of the New York Mets been during the postseason?
So hot, Las Vegas sportsbook Bovada actually placed odds on whether or not the Mets second baseman would homer again in NLCS Game 3 against the Chicago Cubs.
Murphy entered the game having homered in four straight postseason games. One more and he would equal Carlos Beltran’s MLB record by homering in five consecutive postseason games. So not only was Murphy hot, he was nearing something pretty special, and also pretty unlikely given that he’d never hit more than 14 home runs in any of his seven big league seasons.

As noted above, Bovada set the odds at 5-1. And wouldn’t you know, Murphy belted a winner for those who bet on his historic hot streak to continue. In the third inning, he went deep against Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks, giving him a home run in five consecutive postseasons games and helping the Mets take command of the series in their eventual 5-2 victory.
The home run gave Murphy six home runs overall in eight games this postseason. That also set a new Mets franchise record.
Mike Piazza previously held the record with five home runs. Piazza’s home runs came over two different postseasons and 22 games.

If you had Murphy hitting a home run in Game 3, you were a winner. If you had 12-1 on Murphy hitting the first home run in Game 3, your night was ruined by the next hottest hitter in the postseason, Chicago’s Kyle Schwarber.
Schwarber went yard in the first inning, giving him a Cubs franchise record five home runs in just eight postseason games. Given how locked in Murphy and Schwarber are right now, betting on either to homer again in Game 4 would probably be a good investment. We’re sure those odds will be set soon, if they haven’t been already.
