Dallas have been on a slippery slope since the opening of the 2015 regular season. Their two victories in the first two weeks seem a distant memory after suffering three consecutive losses. However, last week’s bye have allowed the Cowboys to rest up, and will possibly give them a boost heading into their game against the Giants. Dallas will be looking for a repeat of their opening match against New York, in which they claimed a 27-26 victory. However, quarterback, Tony Romo’s injury has placed a considerable amount of chaos in the Cowboys’ ranks, and one has to wonder whether the decision to start Matt Cassel over Brandon Weedon against the Giants is a wise move.
While Weedon has stood in for the injured Romo, and done so in such a conservative way, i.e. not recording a single game of over 250 passing yards, Cassel hasn’t played a full season as a starter. Weedon has completed 71 of his 98 attempted passes, although he’s only claimed two touchdowns and has been sacked eight times. Joseph Randle has been fairly decent at his rushing game, carrying 74 for 289 yards and four touchdowns, but offence is not enough to get the job done. The defence line up has been all over the place in general, with Greg Hardy being the only one to force a fumble on an opposing team.
The Giants fell to Philadelphia’s Eagles last week, in a match that finished with a 27-7 outcome. The return of quarterback, Eli Manning’s exceptionally erratic play was no doubt partially to blame, as he threw two interceptions, and he has now thrown a pick in each of his last three games. Unfortunately, the team’s running backs never made up for Manning’s dire passing game either, recording just 81 rushing yards. Such is the case that the New York Giants are host to one of the worst running teams in the NFL right now.
While the Giants’ defensive line up did play their part against the Eagles, you can’t have one without the other, and if such occurs once more, New York could be looking at another defeat. In terms of rushing statistics, Rashad Jennings has only carried 66 for 243 yards this season, while Andre Williams has taken4 5 for 127 yards. Both have only claimed a single touchdown in the process. Manning has managed to successfully pass to Odell Beckham more-so than anyone else, and Beckham has recorded four touchdowns over 489 yards. As mentioned though, the defence unit has forced nine fumbles altogether this regular season, with Uani’ Unga and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie claiming two each.

The Cowboys return after a bye with a new QB and we think that’s just what the doctor ordered to get back on the winning tack. Matt Cassel is a more vertical passer than Brandon Weedon and should take more chances. He’ll face a pass defence whose numbers aren’t a proper barometer of their play. The Giants have faced only one above average passing attack and got lit up for 346 yards. That’s not to say that Cassel makes Dallas an elite passing team but combined with the strong running attack should cause New York fits.
