Utah gives Arizona State 2 points on boneheaded illegal forward pass (Video)
Utah gave away two points to Arizona State on one of the more bizarre plays of the year.
After ASU cut Utah’s lead to 14-13 late in the third with a short field goal, Utah’s Britain Covey fielded the ensuing kickoff about nine yards deep in his own end zone. Instead of simply taking a knee, it looks like the Utes had some sort of trick return play on, and Covey perplexingly tossed the ball across the end zone to Bubba Poole.
The trajectory of the Covey’s toss was forward, making it an illegal forward pass. And because the foul occurred in the end zone, the play resulted in a safety for Arizona State.
The boneheaded play gave the Sun Devils a 15-14 lead late in the third quarter in a huge game for the fourth-ranked Utes.
