Petco Park to be transformed into golf course for special nine-hole event
The San Diego Padres always put Petco Park to good and often creative use when there’s no baseball in town. Among the past activities hosted were a Zombie walk associated with the San Diego Comic Con in 2012. They’ve also hosted Davis Cup tennis, and this December will host the Bill Walton Basketball Festival.
As we learned this week, that won’t be the only notable offseason events, as the ballpark will soon be transformed in a nine-hole golf course.
The Padres, in partnership with Callaway Golf, officially announced The Links at Petco Park, a nine-hole golf experience that will take place from Nov. 6-8. As part of the event, golfers can pay a fee — starting at $100 for a twosome and $200 for a foursome — to take shots onto the playing field from various tees set up around the ballpark.
Here’s a look at the planned design.
Now here’s more on the experience from theAn all-new nine-hole golf experience is coming to Petco Park in November. Get your tee time for The Links at Petco Park November 6-8. Each hole will feature a unique theme and the opportunity to win prizes like a new Callaway Great Big Bertha Driver. Golfers will finish in The Loft presented by Budweiser.
Golfers will finish their day in The Loft presented by Budweiser, which will be transformed into a Callaway clubhouse for the opportunity to relax with additional food and beverages available for purchase, watch other golfers along the course, and shop for commemorative items. A limited number of tee times are offered daily beginning at 7:30 a.m. for this unforgettable golf experience.
Not surprisingly, fans have been jumping at the opportunity. The Padres have already announced that tee times for November 6-8 are all reserved. Fans are still encouraged to fill out the wait list form to be notified first when openings occur or additional dates are added.
It definitely looks like a fun time, though we’d warn those participating to keep an eye toward the sky. There are going to be golf balls flying from every possible direction, and we’re guessing very few of them will be struck by pros.
