NHL Three Stars: Crosby is point-less, McDavid’s first multi-point night
No. 1 Star: Tyler Seguin, Dallas Stars
The Stars were down 0-2 to the Florida Panthers before Seguin and Jamie Benn put the team on their back to earn a 4-2 win. Seguin figured in on all four Dallas goals with 2 goals and 2 assists. Benn scored the other 2 goals and assisted on 1 of Seguin’s scores.
No. 2 Star: Nicklas Backstrom, Washington Capitals
Backstrom underwent arthroscopic hip surgery in May. The Capitals were in no rush to get him back in the lineup, so he sat out all of the pre-season and the first three games of the season. In his debut against Carolina, Backstrom put up 3 points (1G, 2A) in the Caps 4-1 win.
No. 3 Star: Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers
I think we get fired from the NHL if we don’t include the first multi-point night of his career. McDavid scored two goals, one on the power play, and added an assist against the Calgary Flames. Three points! Our little guy is growing up so fast:
Honorable Mention: The Montreal Canadiens stay perfect after being the Detroit Red Wings 4-1. Brendan Gallagher had two points, one of which was a really weird goal. It was signaled as ‘no goal’ on the ice, but would be overturned on review:
… Washington’s power play was 2-for-2. TJ Oshie scored a goal and an assist on special teams … Carter Hutton of the Nashville Predators earned the shoot-out win against the Ottawa Senators. Mike Hoffman tallied 2 goals, 1 assist in the Sens loss. James Neal scored 2 goals for the Preds … Congrats to Sam Reinhart on scoring his first NHL goal:
Alex Kilorn’s power play goal with less than five minutes to go put the Tampa Bay Lightning up 2-1 on the Buffalo Sabres … Patrick Sharp picked up his first point as a member of the Dallas Stars … Olli Matta scored his first goal since Oct. 23, 2014. Happy to see the kid back on the ice after missing much of last season due to injury and illness. Evgeni Malkin scored the other goal for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2-1 win against the Leafs:
… The San Jose Sharks led three times against the New York Islanders and the Isle kept fighting their way back in. Kyle Okposo netted the eventual game winner for New York … Brandon Saad received his Stanley Cup ring prior to the game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Teuvo Teravainen’s power play goal ended up as the game winning goal:
… In addition to McDavid, Taylor Hall also earned 3 points in the 5-2 victory over the Flames … Patrice Bergeron scored 2 power play goals to give the Boston Bruins the lead and the ice the game 5-3 against the Arizona Coyotes. The Bruins power play is second best in the NHL at 38.9-percent. Matt Beleskey record 10 hits for Boston.

Did You Know? Marc-Andre Fleury appeared in his 600th NHL game on Saturday.
Dishonorable Mention: The Hurricanes only put up 19 shots against the Capitals … Ottawa’s Marc Methot could not play because of the flu … Roberto Luongo allowed 4 straight Dallas goals in the Stars comeback win … Joe Vitali went to the hospital for x-rays after his fight with Kevan Miller:
… SIDNEY CROSBY HAS NO POINTS IN FIVE GAMES TO START THE SEASON AND CANADA IS LOSING ITS MIND. Sid matches a career worst five game point-less streak. Phil Kessel had no points and no one is freaking out. Pittsburgh was 0-for-5 on the power play. Tyler Bozak was scratched for the Maple Leafs due to injury … Patrick Marleau was a minus-4. Alex Stalock knocked off his mask in an attempt to get a goal disallowed. It didn’t work:
… The Columbus Blue Jackets remain winless. Curtis McElhinney got the start over Sergei Bobrovsky and gave up 3 goals on 29 shots … Edmonton put up 5 goals on Jonas Hiller … Martin Hanzal and Kyle Chipchurra’s penalties made way for Bergeron’s two power play goals to win the game.
