Weekend Weather: Weather: Week 6 Forecasts
After an uneventful start to the 2015 season in terms of weather impact, we are slowly beginning to see colder temperatures and winter-like conditions creep into our weekly Sunday forecasts. This week, the Northeast will see chilly temperatures but precipitation is primarily expected to only impact the Western half of the country on Sunday. There will also be spots on the Week 6 schedule where wind will be a factor, so fantasy owners should be cognizant of potential impacts on kicking and passing games in these situations. Let’s jump in and check out what the weekend forecasts look like for the remaining 13 Week 6 games.
Wind Worries
Two games on the Week 6 schedule have heavy winds forecasted for Sunday, which should be monitored as fantasy lineup decisions are finalized on Sunday morning.
Denver at Cleveland (1:00 PM ET): Mostly cloudy skies will be present above FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland when the Browns host the Denver Broncos. 47 degree temperatures are in the forecast for this game and no precipitation is expected, but wind impact will be concerning. Gusts could range anywhere from 18-25 mph during this contest, which could have an impact on the kicking options in this game. Cleveland’s Travis Coons is a lightly owned fantasy option, but Denver’s Brandon McManus is currently the fourth ranked kicker in Rotoworld’s Week 6 fantasy rankings. The wind interference in this game warrants dumping McManus if he is your kicker option this week, as far safer options can likely be found on the waiver wire. Both passing games can probably be trusted, but use the potential wind impact to knock the options in this game down a peg if deciding between two similarly ranked choices.
Houston at Jacksonville (1:00 PM ET): As with the game in Cleveland, conditions in Jacksonville will be pleasant outside of wind gusts. Cloudy skies and 70 degree temperatures are in the forecast for this matchup between the Texans and Jaguars, with no rain expected. Winds will be the main concern here, but this game is not flush with fantasy options in the kicking or passing games so the fantasy world will escape in decent shape. Kickers Nick Novak and Travis Myers are both on the bottom rung of our Week 6 rankings, so if you were somehow starting either of those options, cut them loose for a safer choice. The passing games should survive in this one, but all Texans and Jaguars pass catching options should be downgraded slightly due to the potential wind interference.
Wet Weather Watch
The following two games have a chance of rain in the Sunday forecast, but the precipitation shouldn’t cause any major fantasy complications.
Cincinnati at Buffalo (1:00 PM ET): Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo will be chilly on Sunday at kickoff, with temperatures expected to be in the low 40’s. Wind won’t be much of a concern when the Bills and Bengals kick off, but rain could find its way to Buffalo on Sunday with a 40 percent chance of rain showers forecasted. No serious fantasy adjustments are required here, but keep an eye on pregame conditions before this game gets rolling and be aware that rain showers may be present.
Carolina at Seattle (4:05PM ET): The Carolina Panthers will be welcomed with 60 degree temperatures and cloudy skies as they travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks. Wind will be almost nonexistent on Sunday at Century Link Field, but there is rain in the forecast for Sunday evening, which could creep into the later stages of this game. Again, no serious fantasy changes are needed for the options from these teams but rain could be in the mix.
Worry-Free Weather
The following seven games have comfortable conditions forecasted during game time this week. No major fantasy adjustments should be necessary.
Washington at New York Jets (1:00 PM ET): The Washington Redskins travel to MetLife Stadium to face the Jets on Sunday, where partly cloudy skies and 52 degree temperatures are in the forecast. Winds are projected to be around 13 mph, so kickers and passing game options in this game won’t be impacted as Ryan Fitzpatrick and Kirk Cousins do battle.
Arizona at Pittsburgh (1:00 PM ET): Michael Vick and the Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday under cloudy skies with 50 degree temperatures present at kickoff. Winds won’t be much of an issue in this game, so feel free to roll out all startable fantasy options in this game as normal.
Kansas City at Minnesota (1:00 PM ET): The only potential issue in this matchup between the Vikings and Chiefs is wind interference at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Sunny skies and 63 degree temperatures are in the forecast, but winds will creep up near concerning levels at 15 mph. No drastic changes need to be made to fantasy options in this game, but keep an eye on pregame conditions Sunday morning in case kickers Cairo Santos and Blair Walsh need to be swapped out for other options.
Miami at Tennessee (1:00 PM ET): Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee will be a fantastic spot to catch a game on Sunday, as the Dolphins and Titans will meet under sunny skies with 61 degree temperatures in the Sunday forecast. No chance of precipitation or wind in this matchup as conditions will be perfect for Dan Campbell’s first game as the leader of the Dolphins.
San Diego at Green Bay (4:25 PM ET): Lambeau Field will be pleasant on Sunday, with sunny skies and 54 degree temperatures expected at game time. No rain or wind will interfere with this game, but temperatures will dip as this game reaches the early evening. Feel free to trust all Green Bay and San Diego fantasy options as normal.
Baltimore at San Francisco (4:25 PM ET): Early clouds will give way to afternoon sun at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Sunday as the 49ers host the visiting Baltimore Ravens. Temperatures are anticipated to be in the upper 70’s at kickoff, with no rain expected for this game. Wind will be present, but won’t demand any significant fantasy adjustments at just 13 mph.
New York Giants at Philadelphia (8:30 PM, Mon): Fans in Philadelphia will experience chilly fall weather on Monday night for this NFC East battle between the Giants and Eagles, with temperatures dropping to 42 degrees as night falls at Lincoln Financial Field. Minimal wind and no precipitation is forecasted for Monday night in Philadelphia so Sam Bradford, Eli Manning, and the rest of the relevant fantasy players in this game can be trusted.
Home Teams Are Dome Teams
Just two Week 6 games will be played in domes or stadiums with retractable roofs, including Sunday night’s exciting matchup between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.
Chicago at Detroit (1:00 PM ET)
New England at Indianapolis (8:30 PM ET)
