Murphy homers again, gives Mets Game 1 lead
NEW YORK — Daniel Murphy‘s monster postseason continues. After going deep three times in the NLDS against the Dodgers, the Mets second baseman opened the NLCS with a first-inning home run in Game 1 against the Cubs Saturday night (GameTracker).
Here is the first-inning solo shot, which gave the Mets a quick 1-0 lead in Game 1:
So far this postseason Murphy has homered against Jon Lester, Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw (twice). He hit one home run against left-handed pitchers in the regular season and now has three against southpaws in six postseason games.
Furthermore, three of Murphy’s four home runs have given the Mets the lead. In addition to his NLCS Game 1 blast, he also hit a go-ahead home run in Game 1 of the NLDS, as well as the game-winning home run in Game 5 of the NLDS. His solo shot off Greinke broke a 2-2 tie in Game 5.
“Murph’s in a good spot right now,” said Mets hitting coach Kevin Long to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News before Game 1. “He’s not missing … He’s as good as anybody I’ve ever seen.”
