Fan ejected after jumping into camera well for Salvador Perez’s home run
The atmosphere was so wild at Kauffman Stadium during the Royals 5-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in ALCS Game 1, fans could barely contain themselves.
Unfortunately for one Royals fan, the energy was perhaps a little too infectious. His overzealous actions following Salvador Perez’s fourth-inning home run actually led to his ejection, meaning he still missed out on a good portion of the fun.

It was actually a pretty unfortunate series of events for the fan. He was in position to make the catch as it sailed just over the left-field fence and just out of the reach of left fielder Ben Revere. He was right there, but he didn’t have a glove, and the ball was hit way too hard to reasonably catch with a hat.
D’oh.
Once by him, the ball would end up in the camera well overlooking the bullpen. Obviously, fans are not allowed in this restricted area, but the fan had already made his mind up. He wanted the baseball at all costs, and seemingly without thinking hopped into the camera wll to retrieve his souvenir.
And then, a short time later, he was in handcuffs.
When you hear about a fan ejection or a fan leaving the ballpark in handcuffs, you think of someone truly unruly. For example, in Kansas City, perhaps it’s someone jumping into the Kauffman Stadium water fountains to make a scene. This fan didn’t fit that description, and thanks to his remorseful actions afterward was given a slight break from the authorities.
Charges being dropped is a good thing. Not being allowed back into the stadium is not so good, but some regulations have to be upheld here. The deciding factor about whether or not it was worth it will come down to the baseball, and whether or not the fan was allowed to keep it.
One out of three is usually good in a baseball sense. In this case, the fan went home early and empty-handed, but at least he went right home.
