Play of the Year: Stanford WR makes epic catch
Stanford’s offense has been one of the most dominating units in college football since the head-scratching, anemic start in a loss to Northwestern in the season opener. The Cardinal have been pouring it on, putting up more than 30 points in five straight games behind a balanced attack that complements Stanford’s aggressive defense.
But Stanford’s offense isn’t all ground and pound. No, the Cardinal are very much capable of putting together a highlight-worthy play. Scratch that. The Cardinal may very well have put together college football’s play of the year.
Wide receiver Francis Owusu went full Tyrone Prothro for this incredible catch. Not only did he haul in a reverse pass for a 41-yard touchdown, he did so by hugging a defensive back Jaleel Wadood and pinning the ball against the middle of Wadood’s back.

What made the play even more spectacular was that Wadood was called for pass interference.
That. Just. Happened. Behold, perhaps the best play of the year: http://t.co/jUe0r7ujjX

Oh hey, David Shaw. What do you think about your receiver’s grab?

And in case you need a reminder about Prothro’s catch …
The touchdown gave Stanford a 42-17 lead in the third quarter, but neither team was ready to coast for the rest of the game in a 56-35 Cardinal win. While Owusu had the highlight of the game, running back Christian McCaffrey finished with 232 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries with another 122 of his all-purpose yards coming on kickoff returns.
If you didn’t know McCaffrey, who started his career as a slot receiver, before tonight, you will know him now and will likely see him soon on Heisman short lists moving forward.
