Mets' Harvey to start NLCS Game 1 vs. Cubs
After starting Jacob deGrom and using Noah Syndergaard for an impressive inning in relief to beat the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLDS, Mets manager Terry Collins announced Thursday that Matt Harvey will get the call in Game 1 of the NLCS against the Cubs.
We already know that Jon Lester will be the Cubs’ Game 1 starter, so this sets up a fun matchup.
Harvey, 26, was 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA (136 ERA+), 1.02 WHIP and 188 strikeouts in 189 1/3 innings this season. He got the win in Game 3 of the NLDS thanks in part to great run support. He gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out seven.
Harvey saw the Cubs one time this season and he was brilliant, working seven scoreless innings while only allowing three hits. He struck out nine. Of course, that was on May 13 and the Cubs look quite a bit different these days — much like the Mets look quite a bit different these days.
