Martial, Pochettino win monthly awards
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for September, while Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino took the award for top manager.
Martial, 19, joined United from Monaco on Sept. 1 and has enjoyed an excellent start to his career at Old Trafford, scoring on his debut against Liverpool and then netting a brace against Southampton as he finished his first month with three goals in three Premier League games.

The France international became the first United player to take the award since Robin van Persie in April 2013.
However, Martial, who also scored in a Capital One Cup win over Ipswich on Sept. 23, just missed out on Manchester United’s own Player of the Month award, with Juan Mata taking the prize after scoring three goals and providing three assists in his six appearances in all competitions.
Mata won 44 percent of the vote for the club’s award, with Martial earning 42 percent.
Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Pochettino was rewarded for his side’s fine form in September.

Spurs lost one and drew three of their four league games in August but bounced back in September to claim three successive wins, including the impressive 4-1 victory at home to current leaders Manchester City.
Tottenham, who also beat Sunderland and Crystal Palace last month, are currently eighth in the table after drawing 2-2 with Swansea in their last game on Oct. 4.
Pochettino told Sky Sports News HQ: “It’s a collective honour because we must recognise first our players, all coaching staff and the fans.
“It’s good not just for me but for the whole club. It’s very important. OK, it’s ‘Manager of the Month,’ but we need to recognise all people involved in the team. The whole club deserve this award.
“It was a fantastic month for us that started at Sunderland, which was a big win, and afterwards Palace and Manchester City. The Sunderland win was very important because, after many draws, the team played well but we needed to win, and it confirmed our way.
“Also, Palace were a team who played very well since the start of the season. It’s true that the headlines will be the win against Manchester City. After you beat them, it was exciting for all, but every victory was very important.”
