UNC suspends 2 DBs allegedly involved in fight
North Carolina announced indefinite suspensions for two key members of its secondary on Thursday night, apparently a result of an altercation in Chapel Hill earlier this month.
Starting cornerback M.J. Stewart and reserve corner Mike Hughes will miss Saturday’s game against Wake Forest as the coaching staff, school and Chapel Hill police work out the details of an altercation that took place on Oct. 4.
“We have been aware of this situation since the night of the altercation and have been working closely with the University and Chapel Hill Police to gather relevant information,” North Carolina coach Larry Fedora said. “We hold our players to a high standard and M.J. and Mike will face the consequences for their involvement.”
Stewart is one of UNC’s top five tacklers so far in 2015 (20 tackles) and leads the team with four pass breakups on the season. Though just a sophomore, Stewart has been a primary contributor since 2014.
