Man shot after Sunday’s Cowboys game dies in hospital
according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Terrible news from the wake of Sunday’s Dallas Cowboys-New England Patriots game: a man who was shot in an AT&T Stadium parking lot after the game has died,Richard Sells, 43, died Wednesday night at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. His family made the decision to remove him from life support earlier in the day, according to a heartbreaking post from Sells’ sister on Facebook.
“After they did three major traumatic surgeries just to preserve his body enough to move it to the nursing home,” Victoria Gunning wrote, “he will never wake up, he will never move. It will be motionless lying there in his hell. So today my mother and his family are going to go say our final goodbyes to the greatest man I’ve ever known and could ever know.”
Police arrested Marvin Rodriguez, 28, at the stadium on Sunday following the incident, which took place about two hours after the end of the Cowboys’ loss to the Patriots. Rodriguez was in jail on bail of $200,000, and facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury prior to Sells’ passing.
Police indicated that Rodriguez had been in a prior fight that evening and had held a gun to the head of another fan. He then got into an altercation with Sells and pulled the trigger.
A GoFundMe page set up in the wake of the incident indicated that Sells was engaged and expecting a daughter.
