When the Buffalo Bills needed a backup QB, they needed one with a passport
When an NFL team has a London trip on the schedule, you can’t just worry about simply signing the best free agent during the season. You better make sure they have a passport, or they’re not going to be helping you for that game.
The Buffalo Bills had this issue arise on Tuesday. They needed a quarterback because Tyrod Taylor has an MCL sprain that might knock him out for a few weeks. EJ Manuel will start, but depth is a problem if Taylor can’t play. Upcoming international travel is an issue too.
The Bills play against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 25 at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time. They’ll likely need a backup quarterback to make that trip, and so according to the Buffalo News, when the Bills started searching around for someone to sign they had an extra question to go along with the usual free-agent vetting: Do you have a passport?

The Bills signed quarterback Josh Johnson, who has been cut and re-signed by the Indianapolis Colts what seems like 100 times the past few weeks as Andrew Luck deals with a shoulder injury. Bills coach Rex Ryan said he believes in Taylor’s toughness and hasn’t ruled out Taylor starting this week against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bills just need to make sure that whoever their quarterbacks are for the Jaguars game, they can get through customs.
