Betting Odds
Point Spread: Red Raiders -31
Total Line: 75
Texas Tech has had a fairly stunning season so far, although last week would provide them with their first Big 12 win of the year. The Red Raiders ran over Iowa State’s Cyclones, and finished the game with a 66-31 victory. Texas Tech made three interceptions during the game and succeeded on 11 of 15 third downs. Not only that, but they halted the Cyclones on 10 of their third-down tries. Patrick Mahomes would throw for 428 yards and five touchdowns, two of which were received by Jakeem Grant, who had a career-high 166 yards on nine catches.
Overall, the Red Raiders have completed 188 of the 296 passes attempted, with 22 touchdowns and just five interceptions recorded for the season so far. DeAndre Washington has carried 83 for 586 yards with six touchdowns, while Mahomes has also claimed six rushing touchdowns over 205 yards on 34 carries. Furthermore, strong kicking play from Clayton Hatfield and Michael Barden has earned the team 43 extra points altogether, with Hatfield recording three more field goals and Barden two.
On the other hand, things haven’t been so enlightening for the Kansas Jayhawks, who faced the Baylor Bears last week, and suffered their fifth consecutive loss of the season so far. Kansas only managed to claim a measly seven points in the game, being swallowed whole by the Bears’ 66 points finish. It’s unfortunate that the Jayhawks’ best two quarterbacks, Montell Cozart and Deondre Ford are out on injury, as are their top two wide receivers, Bobby Hartzog Jr. and Tre’ Parmalee. To add further injured players to the list, cover cornerback, Brandon Stewart left this game with a groin injury early on, which no doubt will add to the team’s misery.
With the loss of Cozart and Ford for the moment, Kansas is relying on number 13 freshman quarterback, Ryan Willis to play the game in their spot. However, Willis has so far only completed 28 of his 54 pass attempts. This, of course, is also down to the loss of the wide receivers, with freshmen Tyler Patrick and Steven Sims Jr. attempting to fill in the void. They been on the receiving end of 15 and 11, respectively, and completed 269 yards between them, with one touchdown claimed by Sims Jr. Kansas, no doubt, has a lot of work to do to overcome the strength of the Red Raiders.

his game opened at 27 and quickly moved to 31 points and that still doesn’t put us on the dog side of the point spread line. The Jayhawks had lowly Iowa State beat them by 25 in a 38-13 the same team that Texas Tech dismantled 66-31. The only way the Red Raiders will not get the cover is if they take the pedal off the metal in the fourth. They do have Oklahoma on deck, but the lack of offense by Kansas should have Texas Tech backers cashing their tickets.
