Purdue have had a disappointing 2015 season, losing all but one of their games so far. Last week’s loss came at the hands of the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who brought everything they had to defeat the Boilermakers in a 41-13 outcome. Despite the fact that Minnesota’s offence was exceptionally questionable at times, the team were still able to outdo Purdue, thanks to an even more reserved offensive unit. Running back, D.J. Knox topped of a 75-yard rush with a 1-yard touchdown run to open the game, but the team wouldn’t score again until 4:39 were left on the clock, when David Blough threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Cole Herdman.
The Boilermakers have a lot of work to do in all areas of their team, which has played erratically since the beginning of the 2015 season. Blough has only completed 68 of his 127 attempted passes, and Austin Appleby has only completed 60 of his 110 attempts, with five and six interceptions, respectively. Markell Jones has carried 66 for 412 yards and five touchdowns, but receptions have been skittish, with DeAngelo Yancey claiming 117 for 318 yards and Danny Anthrop receiving 25 for 225 yards.
Wisconsin has played a remarkably better season, only having lost two games out of the six they’ve played so far. Following a fifth game loss to Iowa, last week saw them get right back on track with a 23-21 victory over Nebraska’s Cornhuskers. It didn’t look like it would be so, as with just over a minute left on the clock, Wisconsin were trailing behind. Then, Rafael Gaglianone made a 46-yard field goal with four seconds left following a miss from 39 yards, to give the Badgers a fourth win.
Quarterback, Joel Stave has completed 117 of his 197 passes this season so far, claiming eight touchdowns and being on the end of just four interceptions. Dare Ogunbowale has played a stellar game overall as well, carrying 77 for 426 yards and three touchdowns. Taiwan Deal has also been strong on the rushing front, carrying 81 for 357 yards, and recording four touchdowns in the process. The aforementioned Gaglianone may have faltered with the 39 yard kick in the Badgers’ last game, but he’s made nine field goals overall this season so far of his 15 attempted.

The Boilermakers just rolled over last week against the Golden Gophers allowing 326 rushing yards to a team that had been struggling on that side of the ball. This week they face a team who has gotten not only the victory but also covered the spread in nine straight. The 24 point spread line may seem high but the Badgers defense has played well since their opener allowing a total 44 points in four games. If they can hold Purdue to 14 or fewer they’ll only need to put up 35 give or take a few points which has happened in four of their five games against FBS teams.
