Wacky sequence spells trouble for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch
Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Charotte got really wacky in the span of a few minutes.
Justin Allgaier ran into the back of Michael McDowell on a restart. He busted the radiator of his car and fluid was spilled all over the track on the frontstretch and turns one and two. NASCAR threw a caution to clean up the fluid from the incident.
Apparently the Charlotte Motor Speedway safety crew didn’t get the track entirely clean. On the ensuing restart, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s car skated into the wall. His team said there was fluid still on the track and there was wet spots on the camera on his roof as his car went to the wall. And when you watch the replay, it looks like his car suddenly loses traction.

Junior was already in the midst of a comeback from a flat tire. He got a nudge from Carl Edwards earlier in the race and got a flat tire and rubbed the wall. He had just gotten his lap back before hitting the wall a second time. He finished 28th.
NASCAR threw a caution for fluid on the track (again) after Junior got into the wall. As the field went to pit road, Kyle Busch appeared to pit and Kyle Larson appeared to stay on the track. They both made last minute choices to reverse their decisions and slammed into each other.
Larson had severe damage to the rear of his car and Busch had right-front damage. The two cars had been in the top five before the crash.
Junior restarted the race three laps down while Busch was at the tail end of the lead lap. Busch finished 20th. After the race, the sanctioning body denied there was fluid on the track.
NASCAR’s Richard Buck says there was no oil on the track. They checked during race and say they are “absolutely confident” there was no oil.
