Colby Rasmus singled off the roof in Houston’s ALDS win over Kansas City
Colby Rasmus reached base safely four times Sunday in the Astros’ 4-2 victory over Kansas City, including once in an extremely unusual way.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Rasmus launched a moonshot toward right field that pushed Alex Rios back to the warning track only to see the ball hit off the roof in Minute Maid Park and land in shallow right for a single. By rule, the ball is in play.

Unlike other indoor baseball parks where balls hitting off the roof or catwalks are more common, it’s very unusual to see a ball reach that high in Houston. It ended up being a nonfactor in the outcome as Rasmus was stranded at first base.
It proved to be an odd day for Rasmus and not just because of the hit he earned in unique fashion. While he reached base four times, he didn’t score a run. But Houston managed to get the run, despite leaving him on base four times. Rasmus accounted for four of the six Astros left on base in the game.

Houston will try to advance to the American League Championship Series on Monday while Kansas City hopes to stave off elimination and send the series back to Kansas City for a decisive Game 5.
