Chiefs’ Jamaal Charles ruled out with right-knee injury; torn ACL feared
Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles was helped off the field with a non-contact injury against the Chicago Bears that had him grabbing his right knee in agony.
Charles went down on a non-contact injury in the third quarter at the Bears’ 9-yard line, crumpling to the ground. He was helped off the field and appeared to have difficulty putting any weight on the leg as he did. Charles eventually was taken into the locker room after being attended to behind the Chiefs’ bench initially.
After the hit, Charles was ruled out from the rest of the game.
The fear is that Charles suffered a torn ACL on the play, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Charles suffered a torn ACL and missed all but two games in the Chiefs’ 2011 season.
To that point, Charles had rushed 12 times for 58 yards and had a 26-yard reception as the Chiefs built a 17-3 lead. The Chiefs settled for a 27-yard field-goal attempt after the Charles injury, but it was blocked.
Losing Charles would be a major blow for a Chiefs offense that already has been limited this season. He entered Week 5 as the NFL’s fifth-leading rusher.
