Bank of America 500 postponed until Sunday
Rain forced the postponement of Saturday night’s scheduled Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The Sprint Cup Series race will be run at 12:30 p.m. ET on Sunday. NASCAR decided to call the race before 7 p.m. ET because of the dire forecast. With the October temperatures and lack of sunlight, track drying conditions would not have been optimal if the rain had subsided in the near future.
The race was scheduled to be broadcast on NBC. The network has a big episode of Saturday Night Live scheduled for 11:30 p.m. ET with Amy Schumer hosting. It’s unclear if the episode had any bearing on the decision to call the race so early, but it’s worth noting that Schumer has more widespread appeal than NASCAR does.
Matt Kenseth will start the race on the pole when it does go green. Sunday’s forecast is much more optimal for racing with no precipitation expected.
