Disappointing Mariners fire manager McClendon
Lloyd McClendon will not return as Mariners manager in 2016, the team announced on Friday. As CBSSports MLB insider Jon Heyman reported on Friday morning, McClendon was not going to keep his job with a new GM — Jerry Dipoto — on the job in Seattle and coming off a disappointing 2015.
McClendon’s Mariners tenure ends after two seasons, a span over which he compiled a record of 163-161 (.503). McClendon guided the M’s to an 87-75 mark in his first season, but in 2015, depsite high preseason expectations, Seattle finished 10 games under .500 and in fourth place in the AL West.
McClendon, 56, previously managed the Pirates from 2001 to 2005.
