College Football Week 6 betting odds: Picking Top 25 teams against the spread – FanSided
Looking at the best bets against the spread for college football in Week 6.
Another week of the 2015 college football season is ahead of us, and the slate, well, might not be particularly appetizing to the casual fan. However, that is of little consequence to us in this space, as we dive into the point spreads each week to hand out winners for each game that involves a top-25 team.
Last week’s picks netted a 12-5 record that would make anyone jealous, and we’ll try to hold up our end of the bargain with another batch here. Let’s do it.
Colorado State (+16) over No. 25 Boise State
This line just keeps getting higher, but I want no part of the favorite in Boise. The Broncos are quite good again this season, but laying more than two touchdowns on the road against a reasonably solid opponent (CSU qualifies) isn’t a good idea. Throw in the fact that more than 80% of the action (via Vegas Insider) is on the Broncos, and we’re fading that hard. Give me the points.
No. 24 Toledo (-15) over Kent State
I know what you’re thinking. Toledo is ranked?! Yes, the Rockets are 4-0 and have crept into the AP Top 25 this week. I normally don’t like to lay big numbers, but Kent State is absolutely brutal and I’m a believer that Toledo is a legitimate squad.
Illinois (+11) over No. 22 Iowa
Iowa should never, ever be laying double-digits against a semi-competent opponent. That is the simple explanation. I do think the Hawkeyes are the better team by a decent margin, but Iowa’s style lends itself to close games, and this should be a low-scoring affair that doesn’t sniff the 11-point number.
No. 21 Oklahoma State (+7) over West Virginia
Normally, I would love the unranked team that is a favorite over the ranked team, as that is a system play that works to the smart handicappers’ advantage. Still, I’m not laying a full touchdown with the Mountaineers, especially given the fact that I believe these two teams are relatively even. I would probably stay away altogether, but when in doubt, take the points.
