Betting Odds
Point Spread: Cardinals -2.5
Total Line: 44
The Cardinals are riding high at the top of the NFC West division, having won three of the four games they’ve already played. Last week brought them their first loss against the St. Louis Rams, in a game that ended with a score of 24-22. Arizona entered the game converting 12-of-13 red zone opportunities into touchdowns, but quarterback, Carson Palmer was constantly under pressure from the Rams throughout the game. He finished with 29-of-46 for 352 yards with a touchdown and an interception. During the game, he was sacked four times, and the Cardinals’ defence was clearly suffering in the second half.
However, solid play from Arizona’s offensive unit has seen them rack up an average of 37 points per game, with 405 yards gained on average to give them rankings of second and fourth, respectively. Palmer has completed 85 of his attempted 134 passes this season, according to official statistics, although he has been sacked five times now, resulting in a loss of 22 yards. The Cardinals’ defence has also been in fine form, allowing opponents to claim an average of only 18.2 points and 306.8 yards on average, ranking them seventh and fifth, respectively.
The season has been an altogether different story for the Detroit Lions though, who currently sit at the bottom of the NFC North division, and the bottom of the entire NFL with four losses. The Seattle Seahawks were responsible for their latest in a match which finished with a 10-13 score. All in all, Detroit did try their utmost hardest to topple the Seahawks and were almost in reach of claiming their first win. However, Seattle managed to force a fumble on wide receiver, Calvin Johnson at the 1-yard line, which led to the Lions leaving the match as the losers once more.
The Lions’ quarterback, Matthew Stafford needs to learn when and when not to make his passes. He’s already thrown five interceptions, an amount which equals his touchdowns, and thanks to being sacked six times already, he’s lost 34 yards. While the match against Seattle was his first without being intercepted, he’s going to need to work a lot harder in order to bring Detroit up the rankings. However, the Lions also need to improve their defence line. Having given up an average of 383 yards per game and allowed opponents to score an average of 24 points per game, a ranking of 25th and 18th, respectively, has been assigned to the unit that is often led by James Ihedigbo.

We’re not impressed with the Lions’ defense this season. They’re allowing the third most yards per catch per game. That’s a real key statistic. They do get some sacks and the Cards did give up four to the Rams, but the St. Louis unit is elite is Detroit’s is not. This is also an unfavorable scheduling spot for the Lions playing on a short week and not getting the advantage of an early start against a west coast opponent. Lay the points.
