NC State suffered their first loss of the 2015 NCAAF regular season last week, finishing with a 20-13 outcome against Louisville’s Cardinals. The Wolfpack’s offensive line just couldn’t break through the Hokies’ solid defensive line up, only managing to run for 45 of the team’s 228 total yards gained in the game. Saying that, the Wolfpack did have a slightly troubled week before the game, when coach Dave Doeren had to dismiss last year’s leading rusher, Shadrach Thornton due to certain legal issues after a midweek arrest.
However, no doubt NC State are determined to come back stronger, with quarterback Jacoby Brissett completing 90 of his 123 attempted so far this season. He’s already secured 992 yards in passing and an extra 39 yards in rushing, carrying 35 in the process and scoring a touchdown. Matthew Dayes has played a strong game this season as well, carrying 95 for 522 yards and claiming 10 touchdowns, whilst receptions have been taken by Jaylen Samuels and Jumichael Ramos in the most part.
Virginia Tech have had an up and down season so far, losing in their first week before gaining ground in their second and third week games. It went downhill again after this, and that didn’t change last week when they lost to the Pittsburgh Panthers in a 17-13 result. In fact, the Panthers stopped the Hokies from scoring any points in the first quarter of the match, while taking 10 for themselves. The Hokies finished the game with just 100 yards, marking their lowest total since 29 years prior.
The Hokies have had some terrible issues with their passing game, with quarterback Brendon Motley only completing 64 of his 112 attempts for 861 yards. Isaiah Ford has been on the receiving end of 24 passes, claiming 382 yards and three touchdowns, while carrying two for 17 yards in rushing statistics. Travon McMillian has been a bit more impressive, carrying 32 for 223 yards, although the aforementioned Motley has claimed three rushing touchdowns.

We’ll fade the Hokies here after an embarrassing home effort last week against Pittsburgh gaining just 100 total yards on offense. Louisville outplayed NC State last week but the Wolfpack should be able to get the running game back on track against Virginia Tech’s weak unit this week.
