Jim Furyk uncertain for Presidents Cup with wrist injury, Haas says
U.S. Presidents Cup captain Jay Haas isn’t sure if Jim Furyk will be able to play on his South Korea-bound team next week.
Furyk pulled out of last week’s season-ending Tour Championship with a wrist injury that happened ahead of the Deutsche Bank Championship. Despite a week break after the Boston-area event, Furyk then pulled out of the BMW Championship after six holes in the first round, marking Furyk’s first PGA Tour withdrawal in 20 years.
“Jim is still testing his wrist,” Haas said on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio on Thursday. “I don’t think it’s quite where he wants it to be, but he’s doing everything he can to be there.”
Furyk has until 6 p.m. local time on Oct. 7 to decide if he can compete. If Furyk can’t go, Haas said that he has a potential alternate identified, but he didn’t share that player’s identity. Whoever the player is, Haas said that person has been outfitted with team clothes and has a plane ticket in hand to South Korea.
