Awkward … NFL names Tom Brady its AFC offensive player of the month
If the NFL had its way, we wouldn’t have seen Tom Brady play at all in September. He was suspended for four games in deflate-gate.
Instead, a federal court overturned the suspension, Brady played, and was arguably the best player in the entire league in September. It’s fairly awkward that the NFL announced that Brady is its AFC offensive player of the month for September, when it didn’t even want him playing that month.

I guess this means the NFL won’t conspire to not give Brady any awards, though they didn’t have much choice here. Brady has nine touchdowns and no interceptions. His 1,112 yards leads the NFL, far ahead of Matt Ryan in second place at 946. The Patriots are 3-0 with 119 points scored, the second-most in the NFL. If you’re doing an MVP poll after three weeks, the only answers you’d reasonably get are Brady or Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Brady has played unbelievably well so far.
So the NFL pretty much had to pretend like nothing happened all offseason and give Brady the AFC offensive player of the month award. It’s just too bad there’s no ceremony with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to present the award to those players of the month.
