The Cubs will air the NL wild card game at Wrigley Field if they don’t host it
Whether or not the Chicago Cubs host the National League wild card game on October 7, their fans will be able to watch the contest at Wrigley Field.
If the Cubs don’t host the game, the team plans on airing it on the Wrigley Field video boards. Season ticket holders will have the first shot at purchasing tickets to the event, according to WGN TV. Then, ticketing would open to the general public. All the proceeds from the event will go to charity.

As it currently stands, the Cubs will likely travel to Pittsburgh for the contest. With just six games left to play, Chicago currently trails the Pirates for the top wild card spot by 3.5 games. It’s not impossible for the team to make up that difference, but it’s pretty unlikely barring a major collapse by Pittsburgh.
Even if the Cubs can’t host the wild card game, the club still wants fans to be able to gather and watch it. Now that they actually have video boards, this is possible. Personally, we think the whole thing is pretty neat.
Some fans won’t like the idea of watching a do-or-die game at the park with a ton of fans, and we completely understand that. But for others who have watched this team all season at Wrigley, we get how the idea can be appealing. Whether they win or lose, you get to enjoy the game in a familiar place, surrounded by other fans.
The fact that the proceeds will go to charity is also a nice touch. It’s worth noting Major League Baseball has yet to approve the event, but we’re guessing they’ll be OK with it.
What do you think, Cubs’ fans? Would you be willing to head to Wrigley Field as the Cubs take on the Pirates in Pittsburgh? Or would you prefer to be stressed and go crazy in the privacy of your own home?

We won’t blame you either way, but we’re kind of jealous you have the option.
