The Hurricanes’ previous game against Nebraska’s Cornhuskers ran into overtime. It was here that Miami took full control after Corn Elder’s interception on the first play, and Michael Badgley’s 28-yard field goal. The result gave Miami 36 points, while Nebraska came up short with 33. It didn’t look like it would be for the Hurricanes initially though, who faltered during the final quarter, allowing the Cornhuskers to claim 23 points. Up until that point, Miami held a 20-point lead over their opponents. It took some grit and determination to cling on long enough to drive the final quarter into the winning overtime period.
The result of last week’s game provided Miami’s Hurricanes with their third win in the NCAAF 2015 season. And it’s been a season of spectacular play in general from the team, with Brad Kaaya completing 62 of his 101 pass attempts altogether, gaining 839 yards in the process. Joseph Yearby has carried 41 for 311 yards, while Mark Walton has carried 34 for 150 yards, both contributing largely to the 103 carries for 553 yards, according to official rushing statistics. The aforementioned Badgley has made 14 extra points for the Hurricanes on the whole, with nine field goals made out of 10 attempts.
Cincinnati, on the other hand, suffered their second loss of the regular NCAAF 2015 season, falling at the hands of the Memphis Tigers in a 53-46 score. While the Bearcats managed to play a beautiful second quarter of the match, Memphis proved to overwhelm them for the majority of playtime. The unfortunate outcome could have been due to an injury suffered by Cincinnati’s starting quarterback, Gunner Kiel. His head and neck were immobilised following a hit in the first quarter when he turned up field and was hit from the side by Memphis’ defensive back, Chauncey Lanier.
The loss of such a key player was enough to force the Bearcats into defeat, and this is also one of the reasons that Miami are favoured in this upcoming match. Kiel has completed 70 of his 111 passes so far this season, taking 868 yards in the process, so his omission from the game against Miami is sure to dampen things. Rushing-wise, Tion Green has carried 61 for 293 yards so far, while Mike Boone has carried 23 for 220 yards. Both players have claimed three touchdowns each as well.

It’s very unlikely that Bearcats’ starting QB Gunner Kiel will be able to play in this match which would leave the QB duties to redshirt freshman Hayden Moore. That’s a downgrade on experience but maybe not on skill. Moore was brilliant when he relieved an injured Kiel last Thursday against Memphis passing for 557 yards! The thing is, we’re not worried about the offense. Where Cincinnati doesn’t match up well is the defense. This unit has allowed 33 or more points in each of its last three games and it would be a reach to think that we won’t see that or more points scored by the Hurricanes. Miami hung 55 on the board in their meeting last season in an easy 55-34 home win. They play on the road this season, but we expect the margin to easily exceed the points the Oddsmaker has saddled us with.
