Speaking of Shireffs, while he has had some good play so far this season, he’s only completed 67 of his 103 attempts on passing, something which he needs to bring a little more stability to. Of the carries, Ron Johnson has made 55 attempts for 131 yards, while Arkeel Newsome top the board in yards gained so far, with 153 altogether on 32 carries. Bobby Puyol has been hit and miss with his kicking game, earning four extra points for Connecticut out of the seven attempts he’s made.

The Cougars are in the same boat as the Huskies, putting on a good showing in their first two outings this season and then falling back, first against UCLA in week three and then suffering a pointless 31-0 loss to Michigan last week. While both the Cougars and the Wolverines went through the last half of the game without scoring any points, Michigan managed to claim seven in the first quarter and a further 24 in the second, placing them well ahead. BYU looked very much out of their league from beginning to end of this game, and it marked the first time in almost three years that Michigan held a team scoreless.

Adam Hine has played a good season overall so far for the Cougars, carrying 54 for 312 yards and two touchdowns. Taysom Hill has offered up nine carries for 72 yards and two touchdowns, while successfully passing 21 of 34 attempted for 268 yards. Tanner Mangum’s 114 attempts have only seen a modest 66 completed for 719 yards, but four touchdowns and three interceptions have added to his credibility, something that he’ll need to bring should he be played against Connecticut.

Tough scheduling for the Cougars saw them cross the country to play the Wolverines in an early start last Saturday after a really tough 24-23 road loss against the Bruins in the previous week. The offense had no punch gaining a measly 105 yards in the 31-0 shutout. They’ll face what appears to be a good defense again this week when UConn comes to town. The Huskies gave up 28 to Navy last week, but held Missouri to just 9 points in their previous game and only road game. When you break down the pure numbers it may look like the BYU has a soft defense, but they faced some very good offensive clubs in their first three games and that won’t be the case this week against Connecticut. When these two met last season the final score was 35-10 for a total of 45 points and we believe that it may go lower than that this time around.
