Weekend Weather: Weather: Week 3 Forecasts
We are now nearly three full weeks into the NFL season and although temperatures are beginning to cool, fall weather has yet to be an interference to the fantasy football world. Week 3 does not have much precipitation or wind in the forecasts of hosting NFL cities, but we do have a few locations where weather has the potential to turn rough over the weekend. Nationally, the Sunday weather forecast is dry for the vast majority of the country, with rain expected in only Florida and the mid-Atlantic region.
Now that you’ve finished digging through Rotoworld’s Week 3 rankings, matchups, and worksheet, let’s put the finishing touches on your Week 3 preparation by taking a closer look at the portions of the NFL schedule that have potential for precipitation this week. The locations of interest listed below are not anticipated to see conditions which would warrant benching any fantasy options but they are worth noting on Sunday morning during pregame warmups. Grab your umbrella as we jump in to see which Week 3 NFL forecasts are worth watching.
Wet Weather Watch
The following three game have a chance for wet weather on Sunday and also have poor conditions in the forecast for surrounding days, which is worth keeping an eye on as we head into Sunday.
Cincinnati at Baltimore (1:00 PM ET): Light rain is forecasted in the morning in Baltimore on Sunday, with chances of showers increasing as the day moves along. With a 1:00 PM kickoff between the Ravens and Bengals, this game could very well see some wet weather. Although Joe Flacco and Andy Dalton may be facing off in potential showers, temperatures will still be pleasant at around 72 degrees. Wind won’t be much of an issue in this game and the rain won’t be too worrisome but this is a situation to monitor on Sunday morning in case conditions gets worse.
Buffalo at Miami (4:25 PM ET): Temperatures will be hot on Sunday as the Miami Dolphins host Tyrod Taylor and the Buffalo Bills. These two teams will be battling under mostly cloudy skies with 89 degree temperatures at kickoff. Only a 20 percent chance of rain is in the forecast for Sunday, but with thunderstorms filling the forecasts of the surrounding days in Miami, this game is worth checking on before making final lineup decisions on Sunday morning.
New Orleans at Carolina (1:00 PM ET): Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers will host the Drew Brees-less New Orleans Saints on Sunday with a 40 percent chance of rain present in Charlotte. With Brees out, neither passing game is a focal point for fantasy owners in this contest, but the rain shouldn’t be much of a factor at light levels anyhow. Be sure to check in on Sunday morning here, but all fantasy options should be relied upon as normal unless heavier than expected rain moves into the area.
Worry-Free Weather
Indianapolis at Tennessee (1:00 PM ET): Nissan Stadium in Nashville will see cloudy skies but warm temperatures of 81 degrees as the Titans host the visiting Indianapolis Colts. Andrew Luck will be looking for win number one on the season and will have comfortable conditions to do so.
Oakland at Cleveland (1:00 PM ET): Winds may be on the heavy side at around 15 mph on Sunday, but partly sunny skies and 73 degree temperatures will create a nice environment in Cleveland as the Oakland Raiders play their first road game of the 2015 season. Just a 20% chance of rain is in the Sunday forecast for Cleveland, so all fantasy options here can be trusted as normal.
Jacksonville at New England (1:00 PM ET): Gillette Stadium will see partly cloudy skies and 73 degree temperatures on Sunday as the New England Patriots host the Jacksonville Jaguars. Little wind will be present at kickoff on Sunday, so fantasy owners have no worries in this game.
Philadelphia at New York Jets (1:00 PM ET): The Jets will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday with partly cloudy skies and 74 degree temperatures present at MetLife Stadium. Wind impact will be extremely minimal in this contest, so conditions will be fine for Chip Kelly’s offense to attempt to reboot after their debacle in Week 2.
San Diego at Minnesota (1:00 PM ET): TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis will see excellent conditions on Sunday as Teddy Bridgewater and the Vikings host Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers. Sunny skies and 78 degree temperatures will welcome the Chargers to Minnesota, and although winds may get into the 15 mph range, conditions should be near perfect for this battle of 1-1 teams.
Chicago at Seattle (4:25 PM ET): CenturyLink Field in Seattle will be rocking on Sunday as the Seahawks play their 2015 home opener. Fill-in quarterback Jimmy Clausen and the Bears will be greeted in Seattle by partly cloudy skies and 63 degree temperatures on a pleasant fall day in the Emerald City.
Kansas City at Green Bay (8:30 PM ET, Mon): The Monday afternoon forecast in Green Bay looks decent, with just a 10 percent chance of rain and 78 degree temperatures. Unfortunately, this game between the Packers and Kansas City Chiefs doesn’t kick off until 8:30 PM, which will give rain showers a chance to move into the area. Temperatures won’t drop too low as night falls with 55 degree conditions in the forecast, but the chance of precipitation will be worth monitoring as kickoff draws closer.
Home Teams Are Dome Teams
Five Week 3 games will be played in domes or stadiums with retractable roofs, including the first start of the season for Brandon Weeden as the Dallas Cowboys host the Atlanta Falcons.

Pittsburgh at St. Louis (1:00 PM ET)
San Francisco at Arizona (4:05 PM ET)
Denver at Detroit (8:30 PM ET)
