Giants teammates dress up like Tim Hudson for trip to Oakland
Saturday is sure to be an emotional day at O.co Coliseum as former Oakland A’s teammates Barry Zito and Tim Hudson square off in perhaps the final MLB start for each.
The game was made possible by managers Bruce Bochy and Bob Melvin, who agreed to start both pitchers against each other on Saturday afternoon. A’s general manager Billy Beane did his part, too. He admittedly wasn’t certain Zito would be called up when rosters expanded in September. However, the push from A’s fans was strong enough that Zito’s return to face Hudson couldn’t be denied.

Both men will be joined by Mark Mulder for a special pregame ceremony. Together, Oakland’s “Big 3” dominated the AL West a decade ago, earning four consecutive postseason berths from 2000-2003.
Obviously, this is a very special day for A’s fans, as well as for the entire A’s organization. It’s also a pretty cool day for the Giants to be a part of. Zito was a member of their World Series championship teams in 2010 and 2012, while Hudson came on board for the 2014 championship run.
Many players specifically said they were most happy last season because they were able to help Hudson earn a championship ring. He’s among the most respected players currently in their clubhouse, which is why they elected to honor his special start with this most flattering tribute.
Would the real Tim Hudson please stand up?
Wait, there he is. He’s the bald guy wearing the nice watch.
Apparently, Hudson likes to keep things basic when he goes on the road. Nothing wrong with that. Leave the flash to the young guys.
The Giants weren’t done with their Hudson tribute there. On game day Saturday, they all wore Hudson’s No. 17 in the clubhouse and on the field for pregame warm ups.
There’s a touch of class there that can’t be matched.
Well done by the Giants and A’s in paying tribute to two of the best, and congrats to both Hudson and Zito on their wonderful careers.
