Lizzie Armitstead won a dramatic sprint finish in the women’s road world championship Saturday, powering past Anna van der Breggen and then holding on by about a half-bike length. The British sprint star, who rued a missed opportunity to stand on the podium a year ago in Spain, clasped her hand over her mouth and burst into tears moments after crossing the finish line. Megan Guarnier won the sprint among several riders for bronze, the first won by an American in the elite road race since Jeanne Golay finished third in 1994.
