Rex Ryan: ‘I gotta control my language’
The Buffalo Bills were flagged for 14 penalties in their 40-32 loss to the Patriots in Week 2, and the players weren’t the only ones penalized: coach Rex Ryan was called for unsportsmanlike conduct in the third quarter for arguing a pass interference call on receiver Sammy Watkins.
With his team already flagged 32 times in two games (24 accepted), the most in the NFL, Ryan recognizes that he needs to tone down things, and his team will follow.
“I think if I have to do a better job of staying in control too and this team’s very much like me,” he said. “I have to hold myself accountable just like I hold the team accountable, and so it starts with me.
“I’m gonna be not as animated or whatever if you will. You know I gotta control my language I think a little bit sometimes on the sideline. I think that’ll help, that’s gonna be the first thing and then our team as well.”

Ryan added that he wants his team to end the season as the least-penalized squad in the league. Given the Bills’ current status in that category, they’ll have to be on their best Boy Scout behavior for the rest of the year.
