UMass WR Jalen Williams arrested, says he was mistreated by police
UMass WR Jalen Williams said he was mistreated by police after he was arrested Sunday morning.
According to WWLP.com, Williams was charged with breaking and entering of a vehicle and larceny under $250.
The 22News I-Team obtained the court documents which state that Williams and Ruben Encarnacion were pulled over after an initial report of the car break-in on North Pleasant Street in Amherst around 1:30am Sunday morning. The complaint says that the two suspects broke into a car and left after its alarm sounded. Police found the victim’s social security card and debit card next to the car. After the police stopped the car they believed the suspects were in, they found another debit card that belonged to another person. Neither Williams nor Encarnacion could explain why it was in the car.
Then the site said Williams said he was arguing with one of the police officers while in the back of the car. The officer then slammed his brakes and Williams said he hit his head on the window of the car, which prompted the officer to ask “How do you like that?” He also said he had to walk home shirtless after his shirt was confiscated for evidence.
UMass police are investigating the incident, though a complaint has not been filed.
Williams also said he’s been suspended from the team following the arrest. He hasn’t participated in any games in 2015 because of injuries. He had three starts as a junior in 2014 and finished with 20 catches for 307 yards and four touchdowns. He transferred to UMass from Dean College before the 2014 season.
