BYU suffered their first loss of the 2015 season this past week, when they took on the UCLA Bruins. The game couldn’t have been closer, ending in a 23-24 score that saw the away team falter a little too much in the final quarter. The Cougars had to contend with strong play from running back Paul Perkins, who carried the team throughout most of the match. Tanner Mangum gave everything he had in the game, driving the Cougars to the Bruins’ 42-yard line. However, following the interception of his fourth-down pass by Myles Jack, Mangum and BYU had to concede defeat.
The Cougars haven’t had a bad start to the 2015 season. A total of 75 of their 122 attempted passes have been completed, and 932 yards have been claimed in the process. Adam Hine has been a force to contend with in rushing stats, carrying 46 for 279 yards and claiming two touchdowns alongside. Meanwhile, strong receptions from Mitchell Juergens and Mitch Mathews have propelled the team to an equal 932 receiving yards, giving the Cougars an average of 12.4 yards per reception.
Despite starting out the 2015 season with a week one loss, the Michigan Wolverines have pulled themselves back, beating out Oregon State in the second week and the UNLV Rebels last week in a 28-7 victory. Running back, Ty Isaac was an obvious star of the match, gaining a career-high 144 yards, which included a 76-yard touchdown. However, While De’Veon Smith may have looked impressive against Oregon two weeks ago, he seemed somewhat lack against the Rebels, running for just 33 yards on 13 carries.
However, Smith has carried 53 for 206 yards altogether this season so far, contributing greatly to the 116 carries for 555 yards that the team has collectively recorded. Team kicker, Kenny Allen has made nine extra points and been successful with three out of the four field goal attempts made. Touchdowns have been coming strong from the offensive group, with Isaac, Derrick Green, Sione Houma and Jehu Chesson all claiming a single one to add to Smith’s three.

Look some us had the Wolverines -34 points at home against a bad UNLV team, so we may be a bit down on the home side in this spot. But, we don’t think so. Michigan managed a paltry 377 yards against what should have been a totally overmatched opponent. BYU on the other hand came up big on the road against UCLA losing by one point on a late 4th quarter TD. It may be tough to come for some teams to come back strong from that, but we think this Cougar team has the mettle to do so. BYU has had a much tougher schedule facing three quality opponents with two of the games on the road.
