Purdue and South Carolina making QB changes for Week 4
Purdue and South Carolina are going to have new starting quarterbacks for Week 4.
Both Purdue coach Darrell Hazell and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier made the announcements Tuesday. Spurrier said freshman QB Lorenzo Nunez would start against Central Florida. Nunez is South Carolina’s third starting quarterback of the season.
Nunez was a four-star recruit in the class of 2015 and the No.16 dual-threat quarterback according to Rivals. He replaces Perry Orth as South Carolina’s starter. Orth became the No. 1 quarterback as Connor Mitch deals with hip and shoulder injuries.
Orth struggled in the Gamecocks’ blowout loss to Georgia. He was 6-17 for 66 yards and an interception. He’s 21-39 for 269 yards a touchdown and two interceptions on the season. He split time during the game with Nunez.
Mitch started the season as South Carolina’s starting quarterback but suffered a hip injury against North Carolina and seperated his shoulder against Kentucky. The hip injury sent him to the hospital because of the bruising and he was back at the hospital over the weekend for a blood transfusion.
Nunez is 4-5 passing for 18 yards and has 12 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown in 2015.
“He gives us a spark running the ball. We need to spread out and run the ball. That’s where we are,” Spurrier said via GamecockCentral.
In addition, Spurrier says they’ll have have three to four new starters on defense. And true freshman Zack Bailey will start at center.

Blough, a redshirt freshman from Carrollton, Texas, has attempted eight passes in 2015. He was the No. 19 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2014.
