Missouri have been on a roll for the 2015 season, claiming victories in all three of their games so far. However, the high scores of the first two weeks’ games shrank to a 9-6 outcome against the Connecticut Huskies last week. It might not have been such an outcome had the pass by the Huskies’ baackup quarterback, Tim Boyle been successful. However, with just under a minute left on the clock, defensive back, Anthony Sherrils intercepted the pass and just managed to keep Connecticut at bay, returning the ball 50 yards.
While this does give the Tigers their third victory, the team’s passing game has been a little off-kilter, with only just over half completed for 652 yards. Ish Witter has carried 41 for 131 yards, being the main contributor to the 100 carries for 317 yards total. Receptions have been claimed mainly by J’Mon Moore and Sean Culkin, both of whom have taken 11 passes each and a single touchdown.
Kentucky weren’t so lucky in their third week match, falling 14-9 to Florida’s Gators. Despite the team putting immense pressure on the Gators’ quarterback Will Grier, he somehow managed to always slip away from the Wildcats. However, it was the Florida team’s defence group that helped them defeat Kentucky that night. Kentucky’s Patrick Towles was held to eight of 24 passing attempts for just 126 yards, and the rushing team were only able to claim 115 yards.
Overall for the season, Towles has completed 45 of his 87 attempted passes and taken 575 yards while doing so. This gives him a completion percentage of 51.7%. Meanwhile, Stanley Williams has carried 40 for 322 yards, contributing largely to the 105 carries and 500 yards total. Two touchdowns have been claimed by Mikel Horton, while a total of three altogether have been picked up by the defensive line up, one for Jeff Badet, another for Garrett Johnson and a third for Blake Bone.

Two teams with surprising good defensive stats. Missouri has held all three of their opponents to 20 or fewer points per game this season. Kentucky has held SEC opponents South Carolina and Florida to a combined 36 points in the two matches. Neither team has been lighting it up on offense with MIzz scoring just 9 points against UConn’s decent defense and likewise for the Wildcats who could manage only 9 against the Gators in their latest. It’s difficult to see that changing much barring a turnover fest.
