The Broncos suffered a terrible loss to BYU in their second week game, and had another setback when starting quarterback, Ryan Finlay suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter. However, last week’s game showed that the team wasn’t going to allow anything to stop them and they reigned supreme with a 52-0 win against Idaho State’s Bengals in week three. Thomas Stuart, who filled the space where Finlay would usually play, threw for 69 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 46 more yards all in the first half of the game. Meanwhile, Jeremy McNichols rushed for three touchdowns, and Kelsey Young contributed two more to the overwhelming score.
This victory gives the Boise State Broncos a full head of steam as they head into Friday night’s match against the Cavaliers. The team has collectively completed 64 of their attempted 93 passes, claiming 703 yards in the process, according to official NCAAF 2015 season stats. Shane Williams-Rhodes has kept up some good play on the receiving end, catching 18 and taking 173 yards, with Thomas Sperbeck close behind with 12 receptions for 140 yards. The aforementioned McNichols has shone the brightest so far in offense, rushing for 204 yards altogether on 54 carries, assisting in making up the total of 142 carries for 593 yards.
Virginia haven’t had it so good for the 2015 season so far, only managing to pull out their first win against the William and Mary Tribe last week, and even that game saw the Cavaliers scrape through with a 29-35 score. Quarterback, Matt Johns threw three touchdown passes and the Cavaliers claimed their first punt return touchdown in 11 years, but had to cling on in desperation during the final quarter of the match, that saw the Tribe go all out in a valiant attempt to claim the win for themselves.
The Cavaliers have played an altogether erratic season so far, with ups and downs across the team and across games. While Matt Johns may have completed 64 of the 96 pass attempts made, claiming 790 yards in the process, the team’s rushing tactics have been thwarted several times over, with Taquan Mizzell being the only player to claim treble digit yards at 155 in 39 carries. Apart from Johns, touchdowns have been few and far between as well, proving that Virginia really need to pull their thumb out if they want to excel in an upwards direction.

We expected Virginia to come out flat against William & Mary in their latest after a late devastating loss to the Fighting Irish. So we’re not going to downgrade them for that game. We’re going to instead upgrade them. That loss to the Irish looks even better after seeing what Notre Dame to the offense of Georgia Tech last week and in their opener against Texas. The loss of starting QB Ryan Finley is a big loss for the Broncos.
