Bills’ Richie Incognito returning to Miami, wants to put past behind him
Buffalo Bills offensive guard Richie Incognito has lived up to his last name — and not his reputation — since joining his new team.
Now he visits his old team, the Miami Dolphins, the one with which he affected his career almost irreparably with the whole hazing incident with Jonathan Martin that got Incognito suspended and made him persona non grata in Miami.
But Incognito has found work and played well for the Bills, who have done a good job running the football the first two weeks of the season and setting a physical tone, even if the New England Patriots undressed them a bit in Week 2.
So what will happen in this battle of 1-1 teams — Bills at Dolphins in Week 3 — as Incognito returns for the first time as an opponent? From his standpoint, he says he has moved on even if others have not.
The game is not on Monday Night Football, but the point is clear. He was part of a story that made national news and transcended sports, and certain folks continue to bring it up every time his name is mentioned. (Like us right now, we suppose?)
But it’s not like he doesn’t have a little motivation heading into Sunday’s tilt.
“You want to give it to them,” Incognito said, per ESPN.com.
The Martin story — even though he retired back in July — will linger for a while and be linked to Incognito likely for as long as he plays. But he can continue shifting the narrative a bit by beating his former teammates and not letting his sometimes erratic emotions get the best of him.
