Premature evacuation: Joe Beimel runs out of bullpen, but wasn’t called to pitch
Here’s a terrible scenario: You wake up at 6 a.m., get ready for work, hop in your car, take off down the road and then, when you’re halfway to work, you realize: It’s Saturday! A moment of shame hits and you turn around and go home.

Joe Beimel went through what’s pretty close to the baseball version of that Sunday. Beimel, a lefty reliever and MLB journeyman who plays for the Seattle Mariners, ran out of the bullpen in the sixth inning of the Mariners’ 9-2 win over the Texas Rangers. He was looking down, jogging out to the mound, ready to take over for Felix Hernandez. So he thought.
Then he looked up and figured it out — ohhhhhhhh, they don’t want me. Enjoy his exact moment of realization:
Mad respect to that U-turn and hand wave, though. Tony Zych, a right-hander, was waiting to come out instead and gave Beimel a high-five upon his return to the bullpen. Beimel did get into the game an inning later and pitched a spotless sixth.

Who knows, maybe that little warm-up helped get his juices flowing.
