NYC radio jock says Matt Harvey is now more like Cinderella than Dark Knight
aftermath of Sunday night’s game — in which the New York Mets collapsed and lost to the Yankees after Harvey was pulled to preserve his innings for the postseason — would have people in the Big Apple fuming.
The Matt Harvey drama continues, because of course it does. You knew the[Play a Daily Fantasy contest for cash today!]
Perhaps nobody was fuming more, though, than outspoken NYC sports talk jock Mike Francesa, who went on a wild rant Monday on his WFAN program about the Harvey debacle and concluded by saying the once-Dark Knight is now just Cinderella. Ouch.
Harvey pitched great in the finale of the weekend’s Subway Series between the Mets and the Yankees. When he pitched, that is.
He threw five innings of one-hit ball, striking out seven and now allowing a run. With a 1-0 lead and more importantly, Harvey’s inning count for the season at 176.2, the Mets went to the bullpen.
The Yankees then scored 11 runs and won 11-2. If that hadn’t happened, this wouldn’t be such a controversy today. But Harvey has an innings-limit to watch and the Mets are doing their best to abide by what Harvey’s agent Scott Boras is demanding while also keeping Harvey happy while they prepare for the postseason.
It’s a messy situation all around, so Francesa didn’t hold back, ripping everyone involved. He talked about Harvey being neutered and how the Mets were ill preparing the team and Harvey to compete in October. “What are you turning this guy into?” he fumed.

At one point, Francesa slowed down, as if he were going to commercial, but couldn’t fully stop himself. He kept going and unleashed the most provocative part of his rant. Via CBS New York:
“You’re telling me somehow if that kid pitched into the eighth inning last night and threw 105 pitches, somehow his arm’s going to fall off or it’s going to affect him the rest of the way?” …
“He’s in front of his locker, looking like a pathetic character,” Francesa said of after the game. “Dark Knight? Looks like Cinderella!”
You can head over the CBS New York to hear the entire rant, which is fun if you like angry radio rants or soaking up the pain of New Yorkers. As for Cinderella, we’ll wait until October to see if the Mets and Harvey really do turn into pumpkins before passing any judgment.
