Twins offer fan who drove three hours hotel room, upgraded tickets after rainout
A Minnesota Twins fan and his eight-year-old daughter traveled three hours to attend Friday night’s game against the Angels, only to have Mother Nature intervene and rain it out.
Talk about the ultimate disappointment.

Fortunately, this Twins fan, whose name in Colin McLain, is also active on Twitter. Before knowing the game would be postponed and rescheduled for Saturday, he reached out to Twins president Dave St. Peter expressing concern about the forecast.
He received a tweet back St. Peter, assuring the game would be played as scheduled.
That interaction obviously stuck with St. Peter, who was no doubt disappointed when his promise didn’t come true. When the game was officially called later that evening, he immediately reached out and offered to put McLain and his daughter up in a Minneapolis hotel so they could take in Saturday’s make up game.
Not surprisingly, the deal was quickly accepted, allowing McLain and his daughter to take in the first game of the doubleheader. From upgraded seats no less.
Simply an awesome gesture from St. Peter and the Twins.
If you’ve been a fan long enough and your favorite team doesn’t play in a dome, you’ve likely experienced this disappointment at least once. Anything longer than a two-hour drive only serves to make it more excruciating. It makes the decision to plan and buy tickets ahead a tough one sometimes, but the Twins really came through in this case to save the day.

Of course, other fans will now see this gesture and expect similar treatment in the future. That’s the danger of being nice, we suppose, but hopefully fans will understand not everyone can be accommodated. Let’s just accept the gesture for what it is and hope McLain and his daughter enjoyed Saturday’s experience despite the Twins being swept in the doubleheader.
