Weekend Weather: Weather: Week 2 Forecasts
Mother Nature has smiled upon the NFL and fantasy owners this week, as she decided to postpone the cold turn of autumn just one more week. Nationwide temperatures will be pleasant this weekend, with no major precipitation expected in any of the hosting NFL cities on Sunday. The only small concern worth noting as the weekend hits the home stretch is the impact of wind on a handful of Week 2 contests. The winds in these stadiums will be 15 mph or lower, which generally doesn’t have too much of an impact on quarterbacks or kickers, but the situations will be worth monitoring on Sunday morning prior to kickoff. Now that you have scoured through Rotoworld’s Week 2 Rankings, Week 2 Worksheet, and Week 2 Matchups, let’s take a stroll through the remaining 15 Week 2 NFL matchups and see what type of weather is in the forecast.
Wind Watch
Again, these four games will see a bit of wind, but will have otherwise perfect conditions on Sunday. No major fantasy implications should arise from the wind at these games, but use this as a reminder to check-in on Sunday morning and make certain that conditions have not worsened. Also, don’t be hesitant to swap out a kicker on Sunday morning if pregame reporters look to be withstanding blustery conditions.
Tennessee at Cleveland (1:00 PM ET): Mostly sunny skies and 67 degree temperatures will welcome the Tennessee Titans to Cleveland on Sunday as Johnny Manziel and Marcus Mariota go head-to-head. Winds are expected to hover around 15 mph, so keep that in mind as kickoff approaches, but neither kicking options is a must-start in this game and both quarterbacks should be unaffected.
Atlanta at New York Giants (1:00 PM ET): MetLife Stadium will see 14 mph winds on Sunday as the Giants host the visiting Atlanta Falcons. Both teams will enjoy partly cloudy skies and 76 degree temperatures, so conditions will be near perfect outside of the minor wind concern.
St. Louis at Washington (1:00 PM ET): Winds will be in the 15 mph range on Sunday at FedEx Field when the Washington Redskins take on the St. Louis Rams. Other than the wind, the environment in Washington will be pleasant with 77 degree temperatures and mostly sunny skies expected.
Dallas at Philadelphia (4:25 PM ET): This NFC East battle will be played under partly cloudy skies with 77 degree temperatures and 14 mph winds in the forecast. This game has the look of a high-scoring affair, and all fantasy options should be good to go unless conditions take a turn for the worst on Sunday morning.
Worry-Free Weather
These nine games will be played in great conditions, so all fantasy-relevant players can be started without hesitation.
Houston at Carolina (1:00 PM ET): Ryan Mallett will get his first start of the season as the Houston Texans travel to Charlotte to face the Carolina Panthers. Bank of America Stadium will see warm 88 degree temperatures and minimal wind on Sunday, so conditions will be nearly perfect for Cam Newton and company in their home opener.
San Francisco at Pittsburgh (1:00 PM ET): Heinz Field will be under partly cloudy skies on Sunday when the Steelers host the visiting 49ers. 74 degree temperatures and just 9 mph winds are in the forecast for this matchup as Pittsburgh attempts to slow down Carlos Hyde and the San Francisco running game.
Detroit at Minnesota (1:00 PM ET): Weather in Minnesota will be pleasant on Sunday for the Vikings’ home opener, as partly cloudy skies and 71 degree temperatures will welcome Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions. 12 mph winds will be present in this matchup of 0-1 teams, but all fantasy options can be trusted as normal.
Arizona at Chicago (1:00 PM ET): Soldier Field will very comfortable on Sunday when the Arizona Cardinals roll into town, with partly cloudy skies and 72 degree temperatures in the forecast. Just 6 mph winds are expected in this one, so conditions should be perfect for Jay Cutler and Carson Palmer to do battle.
New England at Buffalo (1:00 PM ET): Buffalo has lucked out with two decent weather weeks in a row, which is a rarity as fall approaches in Western New York. Temperatures at Ralph Wilson Stadium will be mild at 68 degrees, but 8 mph winds and sunny skies will make the environment comfortable for both AFC East teams as the Bills attempt to contain Rob Gronkowski.
San Diego at Cincinnati (1:00 PM ET): Two 1-0 teams will face off at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati on Sunday when the San Diego Chargers visit the Bengals. Both of these teams got off to great offensive starts in Week 1 and will have to conditions to do so once again in Week 2. Sunshine and 73 degree temperatures are expected on Sunday in Cincinnati, so pack some shades if you plan on watching this one in-person.
Miami at Jacksonville (4:05 PM ET): Temperatures will be toasty on Sunday at EverBank Field when the Jacksonville Jaguars host Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins. At kickoff, the forecast calls for 91 degree temperatures under sunny skies with just 8 mph winds. Both of these offenses will attempt to get on track this week after sluggish Week 1 efforts.
Baltimore at Oakland (4:05 PM ET): Weather at O.co Coliseum will be nearly perfect on Sunday when the Oakland Raiders face the Baltimore Ravens. 89 degree temperatures and sunshine are expected with 11 mph winds making an appearance. All fantasy options in this game can be used as normal.
Seattle at Green Bay (8:30 PM ET): Temperatures will dip as this exciting Sunday night matchup reaches kickoff, with the upper-40’s expected to show on thermometers at nightfall in Green Bay. Skies will be clear with light wind, so both Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson will have solid conditions for a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship Game thriller.
Home Teams Are Dome Teams
Just two games will be played in dome or stadiums with retractable roofs in Week 2, including Andrew Luck’s 2015 home debut on Monday night.
Tampa Bay at New Orleans (1:00 PM ET)
New York Jets at Indianapolis (8:30 PM ET, Mon)
